Or maybe should I say “pep song lyrics.”
I wrote the second and third verses of Beyond the Sun way back in 2013. Yes, as sort of a pep talk for myself during a period when I was mired in the muck of hopelessness. The first verse, however, is only a few weeks old, written for a family member currently processing lots of emotional pain and uncertainty.
Sometimes it takes 12 years to finish a song!
What’s it about? Don’t ask me, I’m just the vessel it poured into. But to guess, maybe two things. Get out of your head and into the real world where real life and real healing can be found and experienced? It could also point to our final destination, i.e., the incomprehensible paradise to come that can never be described with feeble words.
It’s such an arrogant stretch to think of this as my Somewhere Over The Rainbow. But I guess I was, indeed, stretching for that vibe. Anyway, I hope you get a little lift from it (words + music may be forthcoming in an upcoming audio post):
BEYOND THE SUN
1.
If you feel that your heart
Is forever-broken
Will you sigh in the gloom
Till the dawn has spoken?
Tie your shoes
Reinfuse
Roam the village green
Walk away from yesterday
And let the bygones beDry your face now
What’s done is done
Don’t look back
Look beyond the sun2.
If you think that your life
Will fall to ruin
Will you crawl shadow blind
Into delusion?
Mind the gap
Pay the chap
Ride the night away
In the end you’ll feel the bliss
Clear above the frayDry your face now
What’s done is done
Don’t look back
Look beyond the sun3.
If you fear that the world
Will end tomorrow
Will you stay in your room
Drowning in your sorrow?
Get a grip
Take a trip
Breathe the air you find
Gaze upon the stars and let
The mystery unwindDry your face now
What’s done is done
Don’t look back
Look beyond the sun#

P.S. Even though it goes without saying, I’ll say it anyway in this DISCLAIMER: the contents of this post are offered merely as inspiration and NOT as psychotherapeutic advice!!! Naturally, anybody willing to take psychotherapeutic advice from me would have to be out of their heads anyway. 🤪
Wow. Folk Choir no more. You are awesome!
Now, let's put that to some music!
